Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Travis Head revealed that his batting partner Abhishek Sharma had been eagerly waiting to perform his ‘note’ celebration for the past six matches. He finally got the chance during SRH’s victory over the Punjab Kings (PBKS).
During the game at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday, April 12, the young Indian cricketer celebrated his century by pulling out a note that read, “This one is for the Orange Army,” after removing his helmet—an unexpected twist for fans watching.
Abhishek delivered a breathtaking 141 off just 55 balls, propelling SRH to complete the second-highest successful run chase in IPL history. Chasing 246, the Orange Army crossed the line with nine balls remaining. The win marked a turning point for the IPL 2024 runners-up, who had stumbled with four consecutive losses earlier in the season.
“The note has been in the pocket of Abhishek Sharma for 6 games, glad it came out tonight,” Travis Head said the broadcasters after SRH’s eight-wicket win in Hyderabad.
Travis Head took on a supporting role during Abhishek Sharma‘s explosive innings but made a vital contribution to the massive run chase, scoring a valuable 66 off 37 balls before being dismissed in the 13th over.
“Clear Mindset Drove Partnership with Abhishek”: Head on PBKS Heroics
SRH’s hopes of a successful chase relied heavily on their openers, who had struggled earlier in the season. But against PBKS, they hit top form, laying a solid foundation with 83 runs in the powerplay and building on their strong starts.
“In different games and different situations, you play accordingly, and the partnership really helped. We just structured it the way we could — we complemented each other with a clear mindset. On that wicket, 280 or 290 might be a par score. The opposition had already put up some high scores, and everything needs to go right when you’re chasing 240,” Head said during the post-match presentation.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will face Mumbai Indians (MI) in their next IPL 2025 match on Thursday, April 17, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
