Varun Aaron declared his retirement from first-class cricket following Jharkhand’s 89-run victory over Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy. The 34-year-old expressed thanks to the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA).
While retiring from longer-format cricket, Aaron confirmed his intent to participate in shorter-format competitions like the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
On Tuesday, February 20, Aaron posted a photo with his teammates after the victory against Rajasthan and shared his thoughts on Instagram:
“That’s a wrap to my first-class career!! Couldn’t have asked for a better last game than contributing to a big win, in my home ground and most importantly in front of my amazing family and friends. I feel incredibly fortunate and blessed to have played Test cricket for India and to represent Jharkhand for more than a decade and a half.”
He continued:
“As I close the chapter to the longer format, I look forward to continue playing the shorter formats and enjoy bowling fast.” I’d like to express immense gratitude to my teammates, JSCA @jscaofficial, family, and friends for making yesterday, a day for me to cherish for the rest of my life.”

Aaron concluded his first-class career with 173 wickets in 66 matches, featuring six instances of taking five or more wickets in an innings. In addition, he played nine Tests for India between 2011 and 2015, securing a total of 18 wickets.
Jharkhand emerges victorious against Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy clash as Varun Aaron claims a five-wicket haul
Varun Aaron secured a five-wicket haul, featuring a four-wicket performance, propelling Jharkhand to victory against Rajasthan in a Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match on Monday.
In their initial innings, Jharkhand posted a total of 188. Utkarsh Singh contributed 43 runs off 111 balls, while Aditya Singh added 42 runs from 63 deliveries. Rajasthan’s Khaleel Ahmed and Mahipal Lomror were standout performers with the ball, each claiming three wickets.
In reply, Rajasthan was dismissed for 210 in their first innings, with Salman Khan leading the scores with 52 off 129, and Sumit Godara contributing 44 off 91. Varun Aaron claimed figures of 4/65 for Jharkhand, while Saurabh Shekhar and Anukul Roy took three and two wickets, respectively.
During their second innings, Jharkhand was all out for 269. Aditya Singh shone with the bat, scoring 72 off 137, with eight boundaries. Manav Suthar, Aniket Chaudhary, and Kukna Ajay Singh shared three wickets each for Rajasthan.
In pursuit of 248, Rajasthan was dismissed for 158, with Anukul Roy taking a five-wicket haul and Shahbaz Nadeem securing three wickets.
