“There Is A Lot Of Fluency In His Strokes” – Salman Butt On Suryakumar Yadav

Former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt feels Suryakumar Yadav is an extremely fluent batsman and will go on to score international centuries very soon. Suryakumar Yadav was the Man of the Series in the ODI series against Sri Lanka that concluded recently.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) batsman has a mix of orthodox and improvised shots in his armory. Against spin, he is currently one of India’s best batsmen. Suryakumar’s inside-out shot over cover has also impressed many people. Talking about him, Salman Butt lavished praise on the 30-year-old and called him a classy batsman.

“Suryakumar Yadav has excellent wrist work. His shot selection is really good. Even when he plays the big shots, he targets the gaps. Suryakumar Yadav is a very sensible player and reads the spinners very well,” Butt said.

The stylish batsman, who scored a fifty on his T20I debut against England, followed his rich vein on form in the shortest format. He played a stroke-filled 50 off 34 balls which helped India post a good target. He didn’t let the spinners settle, something he has been doing since playing for MI in the IPL.

“Of all the Indian batsmen in Sri Lanka, he has played the slower bowlers – including mystery spinners who are difficult to pick – in the best manner. He has a great range of shots and is classy as well. It doesn’t seem like he is trying to hit the ball too hard and there is a lot of fluency in his strokes,” the Pakistani cricketer said.

The Pakistan opener Salman Butt, who played 135 matches across formats for his country, continued by highlighting the high strike rate that Suryakumar Yadav maintains. He also reckoned the Indian batsman will go on to score multiple tons in the future.

“The risk factor in his shots is less. The specialty of a top-class player is that he maintains a good strike rate and it doesn’t seem like he is taking too many risks to maintain it. Also, there is a lot of calmness in Suryakumar Yadav’s batting. I would love to see him score hundreds. Of course, the T20Is are going on now. But given the kind of batsman he is, I think Suryakumar will score big hundreds. He is a special talent on display,” Salman Butt concluded.
