“There Should Be Consistency in Selection”: Saba Karim Picks Indian T20 WC squad

The T20 World Cup 2021 is scheduled to start on 17th October in the United Arab Emirates. The marquee tournament will end on Sunday 14th  November 2021. Notably, India is filled with exceptionally talented players in the squad. Selecting players for the upcoming World Cup will definitely be a very difficult task for the selectors. Meanwhile, former Indian wicket-keeper Saba Karim has picked his 15-member Indian squad for the T20 World Cup. Notably big names like Yuzvendra Chahal, Prithvi Shaw, and Mohammed Shami were missing from his squad.

While discussing the India squad matter on India News, Saba Karim asserted full-strength squad which was selected against England should be the basis of selection. Saba stated:

“The team that was chosen by the selectors for the series against England, there were around 17 players there, I have started choosing my team from there. The players who performed well there and have not got an opportunity on the Sri Lanka tour because they were in England, you don’t have any excuse to keep them out.”

Meanwhile, the 53-year-old picked RCB spinner Washington Sundar in his squad. Saba Karim elaborated:

“There should be consistency in selection. Because of that, I have kept Washington Sundar in my team. I feel that with the matches happening in the UAE, you will need an off-spinner there and he is kind of an all-rounder.”

Meanwhile, Washington Sundar recently suffered a finger injury in England. So he might not be available for the remainder of IPL 2021. The selectors would hope that star spinner Sundar recovers and be is in his prime before the T20 World Cup.

“I have kept Rahul Chahar because I feel he is an attacking bowler’: Saba Karim

Former Indian wicketkeeper Saba Karim selected Rahul Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in his squad too. He said:

“Along with him, I have kept Rahul Chahar because I feel he is an attacking bowler, a wicket-taking bowler, a match-winner. And I am still keeping Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the team because I feel his form is coming back and he will be very essential for the Indian team.”

Saba also picked the star Delhi Capitals batsman Shreyas Iyer in his team for the middle-order position. Karim explained:

“I have kept Shreyas Iyer because he was also in the team which had played against England and his performance was quite good there. He couldn’t play the IPL this year but his performance in the IPL was quite good last year. So, there has to be a basis to keep him out of the team.”

Saba Karim’s Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2021: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, T Natarajan, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
