Virat Kohli is the greatest all format batsman of this generation. Not only with bat, Virat also impressed so many cricket fans and experts with his fearless and aggressive captaincy. Recently, Virender Sehwag expressed his views on Kohli’s captaincy and compared him to Sourav Ganguly Captaincy era.

Virat Kohli instilled the ‘Never give up and win at any cost’ mentality in the Indian Team. The Indian team started winning overseas test matches under the captaincy of Kohli. However, Virender Sehwag believes that Virat didn’t back his players like the way Ganguly did.

“Sourav Ganguly built a new team, brought in new players and backed them through their highs and lows. I doubt if Kohli did that in his tenure.”, said Virender Sehwag during an interaction on Home of Heroes, on Sports18.

Virender Sehwag said that he rates Sourav Ganguly leadership skills higher than anyone in the cricketing world. The former right-handed opener believes that Kohli couldn’t create a team for future generations like Ganguly did. Sourav backed his players like Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan in the tough phase.

There was a trend to change the team after almost every Test- Sehwag

Virat Kohli is the most successful Test Captain of India of all time. Not only India, Virat is also one of greatest red ball captains of all time in the cricketing world. Under his captaincy, the Indian team witnessed the revolution in pace bowling. However, Sehwag was not impressed with Virat for changing team combinations in every match.

“In my opinion, the No.1 captain is the one who builds a team and gives confidence to his players. He (Kohli) backed some players, some he did not. During Kohli’s captaincy, for 2-3 years, there was a trend to change the team after almost every Test, whether they won or lost.”, added Sehwag.
