The coronavirus pandemic has forced the entire world to go in lockdown to curb the spread of the deadly disease. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared a complete lockdown in the country along with a curfew until April 15. Considering the current scenario, the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) looks gloomy.

IPL 2020 was scheduled to commence from March 29 but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) postponed the cash-rich league until Apil 15 in the outbreak of COVID-19. But with no signs of improvement, the future of the competition is getting bleaker with each passing day.

The cricketers are also not looking convinced with the future of the cash-rich league. Recently, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder, Vijay Shankar also didn’t sound convinced with the fate of IPL 2020. The cricketer from Tamil Nadu also confirmed that there is no news from the franchise’s part.

“No message, nothing. But things don’t look promising at this point and it would be too early to comment upon anything. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and wait,” Vijay Shankar said to MyKhel.

Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly also didn’t provide a clear picture. He stated that there have been no new developments in the last ten days since it was postponed. However, Ganguly confirmed that there are no chances of hosting the league after three-four months considering the Future Tour Program.

Meanwhile, Vijay Shankar, who has lost his place in the limited-overs Indian team, will hope to resume action soon and present a case for himself ahead of the new selection panel led by Sunil Joshi. However, the all-rounder will have tough blocks with Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube already in the ranks.
