Amid the coronavirus breakdown, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has pledged to contribute Rs 50 Lakh worth rice to the underprivileged. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared a complete lockdown in the country for the next 21 days to curb the spread of the deadly virus.
Since it broke out in China, the COVID-19 has taken away more than 20000 lives. China, Spain, Italy, and the United States of America are the most affected places in the world. In India also there have been more than 600 positive cases registered with the death toll rising to 10.

To curb the virus from spreading in the country, the Government of India along with the State Governments has put on a curfew in the entire country to maintain social distancing to stop the disease from spreading. Only the basic amenities such as food and medicine are open for the citizens.
The lockdown of workplaces and schools have badly hurt a major chunk of people who are below the poverty level. Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has come in support of the underprivileged people donating Rs 50 Lakh worth rice in West Bengal.

Ganguly along with Lal Baba Rice will provide for the needy people who have been put in government schools for safety and security, the Cricket Association of Bengal announced in a statement.
“Hope this initiative of Ganguly would encourage other citizens of the state to take up similar initiatives to serve the people of our state,” the statement from the company added.
Previously, Sourav Ganguly offered the West Bengal Government to use the Eden Gardens for quarantine purposes. Cricket Association of Bengal has also donated a good amount of money in the West Bengal’s Government’s relief fund.
