“This Series Will Present Plenty Of Opportunities” – Harbhajan Singh Backs India To Script 1st Series Win In South Africa

Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh believes the ongoing three-match Test series against South Africa will provide this side ‘plenty of opportunities’ to register a series win on South African soil that has eluded them for 29 years. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli & Co are currently 1-0 ahead in the series with two matches still to play.

With two more games to go, many former cricketers have backed India to win their first-ever Test series in the Rainbow Nation. Harbhajan Singh has said, unlike the previous tours, this time India have a top-quality pace attack that can take all 20 wickets in a Test which gives them the best chance of scripting history.

Speaking to Sports Tak, Harbhajan said:

“We’ve spoken about it earlier as well that this series will present plenty of opportunities against South Africa. When India used to tour South Africa earlier, it seemed as if they are traveling to play in very difficult conditions, but now the irrespective of the scenario in South African cricket, India have the bowlers to take 20 wickets. Shami picked five wickets and bowled splendidly in the second innings. Bumrah took crucial wickets on Day 4 evening.”

India have been in the ascendancy in their pace department in the last couple of years with Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah at the helm. Both of them were spectacular in Centurion picking up eight and five wickets respectively to play a pivotal role in India’s victory. Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur also chipped in with useful contributions.

“South Africa team is no match to the current Indian unit” – Harbhajan Singh

South Africa

Harbhajan Singh, who retired from international cricket last week, stated that the current South African line-up lacks quality and is no match for the Indian team.

“Overall, if you look at it, this South Africa team is no match to the current Indian unit. I feel this is a very strong Indian team and like I had said earlier, this is their best opportunity to win a Test series there. If they can’t win it this time around, it will be very difficult. The start though has been very good and, in the time to come, India will win at least one of the next two games and take the series,” explained Harbhajan Singh.

The penultimate Test between India and South Africa will commence on January 3 (Monday) at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
