He made his T20I debut for India against South Africa on 1st December 2006. Under the captaincy of, MS Dhoni, India won the first ever World T20 held in South Africa beat Pakistan in the finals on 24th September 2007 at Johannesburg. He has played so far 89 T20Is and scored 1444 runs with an average of 37.02.

MS Dhoni made his test debut in 2005 against Sri Lanka and was the captain in 90 matches, winning 36 and losing 24. As a batsman in test cricket, Dhoni did not have a great record scoring just 6 centuries and 33 half-centuries. MS Dhoni played 90 test matches and scored 4876 runs. He retired from test cricket on 26th December 2014 against Australia.
