The NDTV Indian of the Year 2025 ceremony turned into a memorable evening as Indian sports and Bollywood shared the spotlight in style. The World Cup-winning Indian women’s cricket team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, was honoured with the Sports Performance of the Year award for their historic achievement on the global stage.
Actor Vicky Kaushal, meanwhile, was named Actor of the Year, creating the perfect setting for an engaging and heartfelt interaction between champions from two different worlds.
As Vicky Kaushal made his way to the stage, he was asked about the Indian women’s cricket team and their remarkable journey. His response struck a chord instantly as he described them as the “true heroes of the nation,” applauding their grit, consistency, and the pride they have brought to the country. The moment reflected the deep respect that transcends professions when excellence meets excellence.

Cricket Lessons With A Touch Of Entertainment
The ceremony soon transformed into a light-hearted yet unforgettable exchange. Jemimah Rodrigues took charge by giving Vicky Kaushal a quick tutorial on playing a classic cover drive, explaining the technique with ease and enthusiasm. The actor followed along sportingly, drawing cheers and laughter from the audience as cricket met cinema most naturally.
Deepti Sharma then stepped in to teach Vicky the basics of off-spin bowling. Fresh from being named Player of the Tournament at the Women’s World Cup, Deepti’s calm explanation and playful interaction added to the charm of the evening. The entire segment highlighted the team’s warmth and confidence, offering fans a glimpse of their personalities beyond competitive cricket.
Dance, Music, And What Lies Ahead
The energy on stage shifted once again when it was Vicky Kaushal’s turn to return the favour. The actor taught Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, and head coach Amol Muzumdar the signature steps of “Tauba Tauba” from his film Bad Newz. Watching the cricket stars dance alongside the actor became one of the most entertaining moments of the night, earning loud applause.
The celebrations continued as Jemimah Rodrigues surprised everyone by showcasing her singing talent, with coach Muzumdar joining in to add to the joyful mood. Following their successful ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 campaign, the Indian women’s team will now shift focus to their next challenge, a five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka Women starting on December 21 in Visakhapatnam, as they look to carry forward their winning momentum.
