Twitterati In Splits As Saeed Ajmal’s Interview With Usman Khawaja Goes Viral

Former Pakistani off-spinner Saeed Ajmal was a passionate cricketer on the field. He was rated the best ODI and T20I bowler in the world, and second in Tests for a while in a period between 2011 and 2014. However, the year 2014 began a steep decline for the Pakistani.

The ICC banned him because of illegal bowling action. Following the ban, a few debates around the 15-degree rule in bowling started gaining traction.  Indian off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, even asked for the rule to be relaxed.

Science is the man – Saeed Ajmal

In a recent interview with Usman Khawaja on his YouTube channel, Ajmal tried to explain his interpretation of the bowling rule in English.

Current regulations of the International Cricket Council (ICC) set the legal limit of 15 degrees of permissible straightening of the elbow joint for all bowlers in international cricket. This law applies between the point at which the bowling arm passes above shoulder height and the point at which the ball is released.

However, Ajmal was miffed with the rule and gave an explanation which almost led to Usman Khawaja bursting out in laughter. But the Aussie was composed throughout the interview and was aptly praised by the fans for his respectful demeanor.

“I can bowl, I ready the guys like within a month… Any youngster can bowl the doosra within 15 degrees but ICC ban straight away said nobody can bowl, science said, why the science f**** man, what the science, science is the man. Man can do everything, not science”, Ajmal said during the interview.

Here are some of the reactions to the interview:
