The official song for the ICC 2018 Women’s World T20 to be held in West Indies from 9th to 24th November is released. This tournament will see colours of West Indies Cricket. Matches will be played in 3 venues namely ST Lucia, Guyana and Antigua.
West Indies are the defending Champions of World T20 winning it in 2016 beating the strong Australian team at Eden Gardens. In this edition, the teams have been divided into two groups with India, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Ireland are in Group B while England, South Africa, hosts West Indies, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are in Group B.
The squads for all the teams have been announced. This tournament will witness many top women players from all countries. Smriti Mandhana, Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur from India, Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry from Australia, Sophie Devine from New Zealand, Stefanie Taylor from West Indies, Lizelle Lee from South Africa, Chamari Athapaththu from Sri Lanka.
The ICC women’s T20 World Cup started in 2009. Australia have been winners 4 times while England won the first edition of the tournament. This is going to be a massive tournament to see all top quality women’s T20 players from all over the world.
The video suggests the colours of West Indies cricket and also expresses excitement about the big stage tournament. Top two teams from each group qualify for the semi-finals. India have never this tournament.
Indian women’s team start their tournament on 9th November against strong New Zealand side, followed by arch-rivals Pakistan on 11th. The third match of the group stage for India will be against Ireland on 15th and the final league match against strong Australian side on 17th.
Indian women’s team will be looking to continue the impressive form they displayed in the ICC women’s World Cup 2017 reaching the finals. They lost to England by just 9 runs at Lords last year.
