His teammates call him “GOAT”. You cannot keep Nathan “Gary” Lyon out of the game. His crafty off-spin has proved mighty effective for Australia time and time again. With the bat, he is no mug. And in the field, he is a superman! In the 2nd Ashes test at Adelaide, Lyon took a screamer to dismiss his off-spin counterpart, Moeen Ali.

Put into bat in the first, on a very flat pitch and overcast conditions, Australian batsmen couldn”t convert starts into big scores. Only Shaun Marsh showed resilience from one end scoring a magnificent 126*. Australia declared at 442/9 to give themselves a crack at Englishmen in the evening. England lost wickets at regular intervals and could never get going.
In the 49th over of the innings when the score was 132/5, Nathan Lyon was bowling to Moeen Ali. Lyon had already dismissed Ali in a controversial manner in 1st test at Gabba. Lyon tossed one up to Ali who was batting on 25. Ali went through with the shot and checked it at the last moment lobbing the ball in the air. Lyon diving to his left plucked the ball off the thin air!!
The whole Australian unit erupted in joy as sixth English batsman was out. Thereafter a 66-run partnership between Chris Woakes and Craig Overton made the English total look a little respectable, still substantially short. England was all out for 227 trailing by 215 runs. Australia didn’t enforce the follow-on. As it stands after three days of play, it looks like Australia will again steamroll the visitors unless someone puts his hand up and delivers.
