Indian side couldn’t make a much-needed impact against Cricket Australia XI on the third day of play at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The hosts ended the day on 356/6 as they faced the Indian pace attack solidly in the middle. D’arcy short who wasn’t able to show his prowess in the T20I series, came out all guns blazing scoring a brisk 74.
Virat Kohli, the skipper himself bowled a couple of overs as the regulars couldn’t pick up wickets at the right moment. His medium pace wasn’t enough to break the partnership but economical enough as he ended with figures 2-0-6-0. It is to be noted that Kohli took up the bowling duties a few times on previous instances. He even has six international wickets to his name.
Shami picked three wickets whereas Umesh and Ashwin picked one each. The last and final day of the game is set to be played tomorrow. Meanwhile, young batting sensation Prithvi Shaw injured his ankle earlier today and the BCCI has now confirmed that he will not be a part of the first test at Adelaide. The action now shifts to the bowlers who can pick quick wickets tomorrow and check a suitable opening combination for the side in place of Prithvi.
The Indian batting order showed some grit and determination as most of them other than KL Rahul registered good scores in the first innings.
India will face Australia in the first game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Adelaide on December 6.
