Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Monday became the only player after Sachin Tendulkar (2011) to attain the top spot in the ICC Test rankings. His truckload of 200 runs in the first test at Birmingham helped him to make huge gains and he thus became the only player after Ricky Ponting to hold the No 1 slot at least once in all the formats of the game.

Speaking on the success of the 29-year old Indian icon, he said “Virat is the best and he”s already reached a status where he is close to a legend stage. I am happy for him and the way he has batted. He has been brilliant in the last few years. He has taken the team forward and that”s what you want from a leader. I wish all the best to him.”

On India”s chances of winning the test series, Dhoni stressed the importance of picking 20 wickets in a match.  “I will just tell you one thing — to win a Test match, you need 20 wickets and we (India) did that. So that”s the only answer I would give because it doesn”t matter how well you bat, how well you are there for five days but (by) taking 20 wickets, you can win a Test match,” he said.

His video of taking the ball from the umpires after the third ODI had led to several questions regarding his retirement. However, the former skipper said that he had taken the white nut to assess the conditions. “We will be playing the world cup next year there so I took the ball to give it to Bharat Arun. After 50 overs, the ball is useless to ICC and I requested the umpires to give it so that we can study its condition and question ourselves why didn”t it aid reverse swing, ” said Dhoni in a mobile launch event.
