Indian cricketer, Virat Kohli’s form has become the talk of the town in world cricket. He has struggled off late to make an impact for India at the international level. The veteran batter has not been able to convert his starts into big scores. His form has become a cause of concern for the Indian team. With Virat Kohli not included in the Indian squad for the Zimbabwe series, former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria believes he might be dropped for the Asia Cup.
The 33-year-old has been given an extended break by the Indian selectors. He missed the limited-overs tour to West Indies and now will also miss the Zimbabwe ODI series. The Asia Cup will be played in the UAE in August. Speaking on his Youtube Channel, Danesh Kaneria spoke about the recently announced Indian squad for the Zimbabwe ODI series.
The former cricketer expressed that India should have picked Virat Kohli in the team in place of Ishan Kishan. He added that Sanju Samson is already in the team, and hence Ishan could have made way for Kohli. Kaneria also termed it an “injustice for Virat Kohli. He said, as quoted by Crictracker,
“India shouldn’t have picked Ishan Kishan in the side as Sanju Samson would then have gotten to play all three ODIs without any extra pressure. Instead of Kishan, Kohli should have been in the squad.”
“Virat Kohli should have played in this series. Does BCCI think that he should only feature in major tournaments? But if he fails there, then once again there would be talks about his lack of form. I think that is an injustice for Virat Kohli,” he added.
Have to be very clear with how you want to handle Virat Kohli: Danish Kaneria
Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria further expressed that the Indian selector and the management need to be clear about Virat Kohli’s role and his future. He stated that the veteran India batter should have been in the squad for the Zimbabwe series. However, he added that Virat Kohli might be dropped from the Asia Cup team.
“You have to be very clear with how you want to handle him. While he was rested for the entire West Indies tour, he surely should have been there for the Zimbabwe series. He could have found his form in the 50-over games and then played the Asia Cup. But it seems now that he might be dropped for the Asia Cup as well,” said Danish Kaneria.
