It is a proud moment for all the cricket fans in India as the skippers of both the Men and Women”s team bagged the honours at Wisden. This is the second consecutive year for the Indian skipper himself to receive the honour.

Virat Kohli amassed over 2500 in the year 2017 and has been phenomenal in all the formats of the game. Kohli, who now amassed 36 International ODI centuries had a memorable outing in the tour of SA to end his year on a high.

Meanwhile, Women”s team skipper Mithali Raj also received the honour for her role in leading India to the final in the women”s world cup at England in 2017. Mithali, who is now the highest run scorer in ODI”s added another feather to her cap for making maximum appearances in ODI formats.

Editor of Wisden, Lawrence Booth, praised Kohli and said that his performances were simply mind-boggling. “Three of his five Test hundreds were doubles, and the other two unbeaten, and his 1,460 one-day international runs were unsurpassed,” ICC quoted Booth saying.

On Women”s team skipper Mithali Raj, Booth said: “Mithali Raj made it an Indian double after she was named the Leading Woman Cricketer in the World. In the course of captaining her country to within a whisker of the World Cup title, she became the leading run-scorer in the history of women’s one-day internationals, and completed her seventh successive half-century, another record.”

While Kohli is busy leading Royal Challengers in IPL, Mithali is leading the side against 3 ODI series against England.

Cricfit wishes both the skippers on their remarkable achievement.
