Shaheen Afridi is one of the best fast bowlers across formats in international cricket currently. Shaheen has impressed everyone with his brilliant performance in all three formats in the last 1.5 years. Shaheen also won the “ICC Cricketer of the Year” award for the year 2021.

Shaheen Afridi gained a lot of limelight when he dismissed the trio of Indian team –  Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli in the T20 WC match in 2021. He dismissed Rohit and Rahul in the powerplay and Virat in death Overs. However, Virat also hit a six on bowling of Shaheen Afridi in powerplay.

It was a great battle to watch between Virat and Shaheen. Recently in an interaction with Espncricinfo, Shaheen was asked about picking either Virat Kohli or Babar Azam. Shaheen played it safe and answered  “I like both, yeah!”

Shaheen was also given the opportunity to choose between the Pakistan Super League and Indian Premier League. Shaheen picked PSL over IPL. Later, he also had to choose between Mohammad Rizwan and Jos Buttler. Shaheen picked his teammate Rizwan over Buttler.

“He is one of the best around”- Shaheen Afridi calls Virat Kohli as the backbone of Indian team

Few days back Shaheen Afridi also revealed how he planned the dismissal of Virat Kohli in death overs. Shaheen called Virat Kohli as the backbone of the Indian team. Shaheen said: “Luckily for me, the ball gripped and he got out.l admire Virat Kohli a lot, he’s one of the best around.”

“The end I was bowling from, the leg-side boundary was smaller, say about 60-65 meter only. If I had bowled straight and fast at him [Virat Kohli], he would have flicked me or pulled me for runs. So I wanted to mix things up and bowl a slow bouncer at him so that it would have been difficult for him to go leg-side.”, he added.
