‘You Bluff Yourself As A Player That You’re Not Actually Tired” – Ricky Ponting On Virat Kohli’s Dip In Form

Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting has shared his thoughts on Indian batter Virat Kohli’s dip in form. He feels being tired may be a reason, but also believes that Virat Kohli will soon get back to form.

The Indian cricketer has been given rest for the ongoing T20I series against South Africa. In the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2022 edition, he failed to show consistency. Kohli scored 341 runs at an average of 22.73 and at a strike rate of 115.98.

Even at the international level this year for India, the veteran cricketer hasn’t been able to make much of an impact. While sharing his thoughts on The ICC Review, Ricky Ponting expressed,

“It (poor form) is going to happen to everyone at some stage. Virat’s probably had a 10 or 12-year run where hasn’t had many down times. But there was a lot of talk, conjecture around the IPL about how tired and burnt out he might be. That’s for him to work out and assess and find ways to improve, whether it’s a technical thing or a mental thing.”

You always find a way to get yourself up for a game: Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting expressed that all players go through a lean patch in their careers. Sometimes the players are mentally tired, which impacts their performance on the field. Sharing his thoughts, Ricky Ponting said,

“One thing I do know from experience is that quite often you bluff yourself as a player that you’re not actually tired. That you’re not physically or mentally tired. You always find a way to get yourself up for training, you always find a way to get yourself up for a game. It’s not until you actually stop and have a couple of days do you realize how tired and fatigued you are.”

Virat Kohli will make a return to India’s squad for a brief break for the England tour. He will play in the fifth (rescheduled) test match against England on July 1 at Birmingham.
