Mohammed Siraj will represent Gujarat Titans (GT) in this year’s Indian Premier League. Reflecting on his journey with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Siraj shared his deep admiration for Virat Kohli, crediting him for playing a significant role in his career and standing by him through highs and lows.
He also admitted that leaving RCB was an emotional moment for him. Siraj joined RCB in 2018 for ₹2.6 crore and played 87 matches, taking 83 wickets at an average of 31.45, with a best bowling performance of 4/21. He is the franchise’s third-highest wicket-taker, following Harshal Patel (99) and Yuzvendra Chahal (139).
“To be honest Virat Kohli has huge hand in my career, he has backed me in my bad time, 2018 and 2019 he supported me he even retained me and after that my performance and graph got up he has been very supportive. It has been very emotional for me to leave RC. Let’s see what happens when I come against RCB. The match is on April 2,” Mohammed Siraj told ANI.
“My training is going very well with all the pacers in my team, and our bowling unit knows how to plan and execute. I am feeling very pleasant training with them all, teammates, and especially being here in Gujarat Titans,” he added.
Mohammed Siraj’s standout IPL 2023 season couldn’t secure RCB a title
During his time with RCB, Mohammed Siraj helped the team reach the playoffs four times but never secured an IPL title. His best season for the franchise came in 2023, where he claimed 19 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 19.74 and an economy rate of 7.50, with a best performance of 4/21.
In the previous season, Siraj took 15 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 33.07. RCB had a remarkable turnaround in the second half, recovering from just one win in their first eight matches to winning six consecutive games and securing a playoff spot.
However, their campaign ended with a loss to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the eliminator. Siraj’s last competitive appearance was in January against Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy, where he picked up four wickets across both innings.
