
Veteran Indian batter Virat Kohli shared a heartfelt message after the Women in Blue captured their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 title with a memorable win over South Africa in the final. The grand showdown took place on Sunday, November 2, at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Batting first, India put up a strong total of 298/7 in 50 overs, powered by Shafali Verma’s impressive 87 off 78 balls. In response, South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt scored a fighting 101 off 98 deliveries, but her effort wasn’t enough as the Proteas were bowled out for 246 in 45.3 overs.
Deepti Sharma emerged as India’s star performer, claiming a brilliant 5/39 in 9.3 overs to help the Women in Blue secure a 52-run win and lift their first-ever World Cup trophy. To celebrate the historic victory, Virat Kohli took to Instagram, posting a picture of the match playing on his TV at home and penning a heartfelt message that read:
“The girls have created history and I couldn’t be more proud as an Indian to see the hard work of so many years come to life finally. They deserve all the applause and a big congratulations to Harman and the whole team for achieving this historic feat. Also congratulations to the whole squad and the management for the work behind the scenes. Well done India. Enjoy the moment to the fullest. Virat Kohli Set To Make Comeback Later This Month Against South Africa
Star batter Virat Kohli was last seen in action during the three-match ODI series against Australia, which India lost 2-1. After recording consecutive ducks in the first two matches, the seasoned campaigner bounced back strongly with an unbeaten 74 in the final ODI, steering India to a nine-wicket win in Sydney.
The Delhi-born cricketer is now set to feature in the upcoming three-match home ODI series against South Africa, starting November 30 in Ranchi. Over his illustrious career, Kohli has represented India in 305 ODIs, accumulating 14,255 runs at an impressive average of 57.71 and a strike rate of 93.26, which includes 75 fifties and 51 centuries.
