“This Feels Like A Dream” – Deepti Sharma Reacts After India’s Historic Win

India’s Deepti Sharma was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for her exceptional all-round performances throughout the campaign. The left-hander accumulated 215 runs in seven innings at an average of 30.71 and a strike rate of 90.33, registering three half-centuries.

With the ball, the off-spinner emerged as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, bagging 22 wickets, including a crucial five-wicket haul in the final. Speaking at the post-match presentation after India’s historic triumph and reflecting on her achievement, Deepti expressed her emotions, saying [as quoted by ESPNcricinfo]:

“Honestly, this feels like a dream. I’m so happy to have contributed in the World Cup final. We focused on learning from every game, and this win wouldn’t have been possible without everyone’s support. As a team, we’re overjoyed,” Deepti said.

“At this stage, performing as an all-rounder is an incredible feeling. Laura played brilliantly, but we stayed calm and backed each other. As a bowling unit, we just focused on delivering our best ball till the end. Women’s cricket has grown a lot since 2017, and I hope we get to play even more matches. I dedicate this award to my mom and dad,” she added.
