England skipper Joe Root has pipped Virat Kohli to become the highest-paid skipper of the 2020-21 season. Virat, who is one of the highest-paid cricketers in the world is the only Indian sportsperson who featured in the Forbes list in 2020. Kohli acquired the 66th spot with a reported earning of nearly 196 crores. The captain of Team India, Kohli is one of the players with a Grade A+ contract and draws a salary of Rs 7 crore per year. However, Root earns more than him. In this article, we look at the highest-paid international captains.

The report in The Cricketer also states that England’s white-ball players earn roughly £170,000 (Rs 1.753 crore). Talking of Indian players, those with Grade A contracts have a salary of Rs 5 crore while those in Grade B draw a salary of Rs 3 crore. The players in Grade C are paid Rs 1 crore.

Joe Root

The name which tops the list is England Test skipper Joe Root. he earns a salary of INR 8.97 crores. The amount makes England Test captain Joe Root the highest-paid captain. He is also contracted in the top category in both red and white-ball sides.

Virat Kohli

Kohli follows second on the list with seven crores. he might not be the highest-paid international captain but his net worth is probably the highest among international captains taking together his earnings from endorsements and other assets.

Tim Paine

Despite his recent failures as Australia’s Test captain, Tim Paine draws a salary of 4.87 crores per year. He will be leading Australia in the next Ashes series which will be his last as captain.

Aaron Finch

The Australian ODI skipper Aaron Finch takes home the same as his Test counterpart. Cricket Australia released its latest annual contracts back in April this year. He will be in charge of the ODI and T20I team in a packed upcoming summer.

Dean Elgar

Elgar has been promoted as the new Test skipper of South Africa. He replaced Quinton De Kock to the post after his recent series loss against Pakistan. The Test captain enjoys a salary of INR 3.2 crores from Cricket South Africa.

Temba Bavuma

Elevated as the ODI and T20I captain of the side Temba Bavuma draws home a salary of NR 2.5 crores from CSA annually.

Kane Williamson

One of the most underrated captains, many think he draws an underrated salary as well from the New Zealand Cricket Board. One of the finest batsmen in the world across formats, Williamson draws a salary of INR 1.77 crore per year in the list of highest-paid international captains.

Eoin Morgan

England white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan won the 2019 World Cup as the skipper of the side. His achievement has raised his monetary status as well in the team. He earns a salary of INR 1.75 crore per year which is a lot less than Virat Kohli.

The Sri Lankan Test skipper earns a salary of just INR 51 lakhs per years which is the lowest of the lot. The Sri Lankan cricket board recently announced pay cuts for its cricketers to which the players expressed their disappointment. Ever since the retirement of Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, Sri Lankan cricket is struggling to come back into recognition. The recent fallout between the board and the players is an example of their sad state of affairs. Sri Lanka also lost two back to back games against Bangladesh in a 3-match ODI series.
