Team India will enter into an era in the shortest format of the game with Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid at the helm of the side. Incidentally, Rohit has been appointed as the captain in T20Is after Virat Kohli relinquished the leadership duties after the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE.

Moreover, the cricketer has opted out of the three-match T20I series and the first Test against New Zealand. With less than a year to go for another T20 World Cup in Australia, Kohli, captain or not, is certain to play a key role in India’s quest.

Rohit Sharma also asserted that Virat Kohli’s role in the team will remain the same. Addressing a virtual press conference, Rohit said:

“Virat Kohli’s role won’t change. He will keep on doing what he has been doing for the team for so many years. “He is a very important player for the team. Whenever he plays, he creates an impact. He always leaves his mark on the match.”

Virat Kohli will add value to our squad – Rohit Sharma

The former T20I captain brings in a lot of experience to the team considering he has led India at the highest level for so many years. Rohit Sharma stated that Kohli’s return will only strengthen the squad.

“Everyone has a different role in the team. And those change based on whether you are batting first or chasing so based on that, roles will keep on changing. Everyone is open to that and I’m sure when Virat comes back, it will only strengthen the team. The wealth of experience he has and kind of batsman he is, it will only add value to our squad,” Rohit said.
