Team India face a must-win situation in the fourth T20I against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday night. Ahead of the crucial encounter, former Indian batsmen Virender Sehwag has opined on India’s fielding standards which was below par in the third game. Yuzvendra Chahal missed dropped an easy catch and there were lapses on the field as well. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has given immense importance to fitness standards to the team which he has at his disposal.
Talking to Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag said that Virat Kohli might have picked the fitness standards from England. The 42-year-old revealed that he saw the charts of the standards of fitness inside the dressing room in England and that Team India might have been inspired by it.
Virat Kohli Has Picked Fitness Standard From England: Virender Sehwag
“So I think that is what Virat Kohli has picked. If England had that standard in fitness, we should too. And ever since he’s taken over as captain, he’s stressed enough on fitness that certain tests should be cleared, and only then can we compete the best,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sehwag recalled India’s 2011-12 tour to England and being impressed by England’s fitness standards back then too. He then said that India tried to cope those standards and failed badly at them.
“I last toured England in 2011/12 to play two Test matches. I played one match at The Oval and one in Birmingham. All the county teams that are there, have a chart in their dressing rooms that demonstrate the standards of fitness. I think the fitness standards of this current Indian team have been picked from there,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
The likes of Varun Chakravarty and Rahul Tewatia are the latest players who have been dropped after they failed BCCI’s mandatory fitness Test. Chakravarthy, who was ruled out of the Australia tour due to a shoulder issue, had drawn the selectors’ attention after he scalped 17 wickets in IPL 2020.
Rahul Tewatia impressed one and all with his all-round exploits for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020. However, he did not manage to impress the selectors at his fitness Test.
