Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag has blamed Rishabh Pant’s captaincy for his side’s 1-run loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. This win took RCB to the top of the points table while Delhi remained in third place. Pant scored an unbeaten 8 while Shimron Hetmyer an unbeaten 53 in a losing cause or Delhi Capitals.
Meanwhile, after the game, Virender Sehwag said that he was disappointed with Rishabh Pant’s captaincy. He said that he would not even rate his captaincy more than five on 10 and urged him to rethink his bowling changes.
Virender Sehwag Slams Rishabh Pant’s Captaincy Tactics Against RCB
“I won’t give him even five marks out of 10 for his captaincy because you just can’t make such mistakes. If your main bowler isn’t bowling, your calculations go wrong – that’s what captaincy is all about. You need to take care of that. A captain must manage his bowling resources according to the situation.
“So, if Rishabh Pant wants to become a good captain, he needs to keep these small things in his mind. Play smart cricket, then only you can become a smart skipper,” he stated to Cricbuzz.
Delhi Capitals on Tuesday, fell short by a run chasing 172 to win. With 14 runs needed in the final over, Mohamed Siraj bowled a matchwinning over deniying Delhi a win. After the game, Pant was consoled by RCB skipper Virat Kohli. Pant was disgusted at failing to take his team home and the disappointment was written on his face.
Shimron Hetmyer and Pant added 78 runs together but still failed to take his team home. This was Delhi’s second loss of the season in six games.
After this win, RCB and Delhi play three more games each in Ahmedabad. RCB play Punjab Kings next while Delhi Capitals play KKR.
