The BCCI is looking to play the IPL in September -October this year.

As the voice to boycott Chinese product continue to grow amid the standoff at the Ladakh border, the fans are keen to if BCCI will reconsider their title sponsorship deal with Vivo. Meanwhile, Vivo acquired the title-sponsorship deal in 2018 for five years worth Rs 2199 crore.

The tension has grown in the last few days with many Indian army personnel giving their lives to safeguard the borders. Since then, there have calls from certain sections to ban Chinese products. A day earlier, there were videos on Twitter showing people coming out in the open and destroying television sets and other goods made in China.

BCCI to scrap the deal with Vivo?

However, BCCI is unlikely to terminate the contract with Vivo. However, there is no official announcement, but going by indications, such a step is not considered necessary. Meanwhile, if BCCI plans to terminate the contract they have to bear a huge cost going by the clause.

There is also thought the IPL’s association with Vivo benefits the cricketing ecosystem and the Indian economy. More importantly, the central government has not issued any directive on severing ties with Chinese business giants. Thus, until there is an order from the Centre, the BCCI has no plans of scrapping Vivo’s IPL contract. It fetches them Rs 440 crore annually.

On the other hand, The future of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League hangs by the wire since the outbreak of the coronavirus. BCCI is currently awaiting ICC’s decision on the T20 World Cup to decide on their future.

A recent report in Mumbai Mirror suggests that BCCI is planning to start the tournament from September 26. With Cricket Australia confirming that hosting the World Cup is an unrealistic dream, the doors have opened for the organisers to host IPL 2020.
