Former India batsman VVS Laxman has opened up on the paternity leave debate in Indian cricket after Virat Kohli announced himself unavailable for the final three tests against Australia as he is expecting his first child with wife Anushka Sharma has sparked a debate in the cricketing fraternity.
As of now, Virat Kohli will be playing the ODI and T20 series along with the first test at Adelaide Oval against Australia. After which the skipper will fly back home to be with his wife Anushka Sharma. Numerous cricketers stretched out their support to the Indian captain for taking this extreme call.

VVS Laxman extends his support to Virat Kohli
VVS Laxman who is known to have played a vital role for India in multiple tests also extended out his support to the Indian captain. He said that even though your an Indian cricketer but in the end, you’re also a family man which is why his decision to be with his family should be respected.
“I believe you have to respect that. Yes, ultimately you are a professional cricketer but you are also a family man, and you also respect what is good for your family and what is good for your family. So, I believe we have to respect that decision. It is a very important phase of your life,” Laxman as quoted by Times Now News.
The former cricketer VVS Laxman further went on to recall an instance where he had to miss a couple of Ranji games to be with his wife for the birth of his daughter. He also stated that getting your first child is always a special feeling while offering his support to Virat Kohli.
“I remember myself missing a couple of Ranji Trophy matches to be with my wife for the delivery of my daughter. It is a very important feeling, especially when you are going to get your first child.” VVS concluded.
