Waqar Younis, the bowling coach of the Pakistan National Team have vowed to step down from the role if he fails to deliver the goods for his side. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) added the former skipper to the group of support staff after the ICC World Cup 2019 when Misbah-ul-Haq took over the charge of the team from Mickey Arthur. Notably, PCB has a three-year contract with Waqar.

The former cricketer shares a long-time relationship with the Pakistan team. He has served as the coach for the men in green for several occasions. In August 2011, he put down his papers, but in 2014, Waqar would again rejoin the staff in May 2014. In April 2016, he resigned from the spot before joining the ranks after the 2019 World Cup for the fourth time. In a recent interview, Waqar Younis has admitted that he will review his performance after one year and would no longer hold onto the position if he is not able to get the job done.

“I will be reviewing myself after a year and let me make it clear if I feel I am not good enough for the job and I am not doing justice to it I will resign and leave myself. It is not as if because I have a three-year contract I will hang around.

Pick those who are in form for us.” Younis said as quoted by India Today.

Furthermore, Waqar Younis also seemed impressed by the pool of exciting talent of fast bowlers Pakistan currently possess. However, the Men in Greens have failed in recent times and currently in the second half of the table in ODIs and Tests.
