Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured a convincing win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday to keep their hopes alive of making it to the playoffs. Batting first, riding on skipper Faf du Plessis’ half-century, RCB posted 192 runs on the board which was enough to seal the win.

It was a day game and Du Plessis seemingly looked tired during the latter part of the innings. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Faf du Plessis revealed that he even considered the decision to retire himself out to bring in the finisher Dinesh Karthik who is in form this IPL.

“If he (Dinesh Karthik) is hitting sixes like that, we want to get him in and bat as long as possible. He’s just so clear. To be honest, I was actually trying to get out because I was so tired, to get DK in. We were even contemplating – myself ‘retiring out’. And then, we lost that wicket. DK is in such good form. It was a tricky wicket. A lot of guys, their first few balls, they struggled,” Faf du Plessis said.

The former Proteas captain played another captain’s innings as he scored 73* off 50 balls including 8 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 146. Dinesh Karthik provided a late flourish, scoring an unbeaten 30 off eight deliveries to propel RCB to a challenging total.

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the game, banking on Wannindu Hasaranga, who claimed five wickets in his quota of four overs. They demolished the opposition and defeated them by 67 runs to solidify their position in the top four race.

I want to be in Australia for the T20 World Cup: Dinesh Karth

With his resurgent form, Karthik has been making a case for a comeback into the T20 side, and he had stated his desire to help India win the T20 World Cup 2022, earlier.

“I want to be in Australia for the T20 World Cup with Indian team. India haven’t won a multination tournament in a long time, my aim is to help India and win it for my country,” Dinesh Karthik said after his stellar match-winning knock against DC earlier.
