The batting coach of Punjab Kings Wasim Jaffer has asserted that everyone will see KL Rahul bat aggressive unlike last season in the upcoming IPL 2021. The skipper of Punjab Kings was the highest run-getter in the tournament but wasn’t able to play impactful knocks which meant that his team didn’t qualify for the playoffs. Apart from his blistering century against RCB, KL Rahul was circumspect and played a role of an anchor and tried batting the majority of the overs.

This tactic of Rahul sort of went against his side as they were always 10-15 runs short because of the low strike rate he maintained in his innings. The 28-year-old scored 670 runs in 14 matches but his strike rate surprisingly was even under 130. Now ahead of IPL 2021, Jaffer pointed out that last season the role of Rahul was different as the side didn’t have batting depth. Jaffer then added that everyone will see Rahul playing his natural game which means he will be batting at a strike rate of around 140.

KL Rahul was timid last season but will bat aggressively in IPL 2021- Wasim Jaffer

“KL batted a little timidly last season. He probably batted deeper because there was not much batting after No. 5, and Glenn Maxwell was not firing. He took that responsibility on himself to try and stay at the crease and get the job done. This time around, everyone will see an aggressive KL Rahul for sure”, Jaffer said to Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings management will be happy that Rahul found form in the ODI series against England after a horror T20I series in which he had scores of 1,0,0. Nevertheless, Wasim Jaffer is not worried about Rahul’s dip in form in the shortest format and still believes that he is a class player.

“It can happen to any player. The more games he played, the better he became. Yes, he had a poor T20 series, but it did not make him a bad batsman. He has scored centuries in all three formats and knows his game better than anyone else. In the ODIs, he showed why he is such a special player,” said Jaffer.

Furthermore, Punjab Kings under the leadership of Rahul will be again chasing their maiden IPL trophy this year. They will kick off their IPL 2021 campaign against Rajasthan Royals on April 12.
