Arshdeep Singh picks fastest to pick 50 wickets in T20I

Star India batter Suryakumar Yadav has played in 26 ODIs, accumulating a total of 511 runs during these matches. Despite his success in T20 cricket, Suryakumar Yadav’s performance in ODIs has been lacking. Although the number is not impressive,  the team management’s confidence in him remains strong, evident by his selection for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.

And, former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer opined that Suryakumar Yadav’s true potential in ODI cricket can be realized if he bats at number six. Jaffer highlights that Suryakumar’s aggressive playing style aligns with this position, and he suggests that this change could help Suryakumar flourish in the 50-overs format.

“Suryakumar Yadav has the game to succeed in ODI cricket. He has played under my captaincy and has made his debut in front of me. He has the talent. So, He started at number four in the Ranji Trophy. So, he is used to that number, even though his game since then has completely changed but he has always been a dynamic player. I think he is just finding it difficult in the transition from T20 cricket to ODI cricket,” Jaffer stated during his conversation with Sports Launchpad.

“In ODI cricket, you need to have different skill set. He needs to work on that. I think number six is probably a good position for him in 50 overs. At number six, he can play the kind of cricket, he wants to play. Like a finisher,” the former Indian opener stated.

Suryakumar Yadav might find it challenging to secure the number six position due to the team management’s probable preference for the all-round abilities of Hardik Pandya.

Other positions in the team are largely occupied, with Shreyas Iyer likely to be favoured for the number four slot. If Iyer doesn’t perform well, the team management could consider Suryakumar Yadav or Tilak Varma for the Asia Cup.
