What Unfolded in the Match AB de Villiers Watched Incognito?
AB de Villiers witnessed what could be considered the match of the SA20 2025 so far, as a disguised fan at Centurion. Pretoria Capitals won the toss and chose to bat first on a superb batting pitch. Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz got things underway with a rapid 42 off 29 balls, supported well by England’s Will Smeed, who top-scored with 54 off 34 balls.
The onslaught continued with South African wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynee blasting 45 off 23 balls, and New Zealand’s James Neesham finishing strong with 28* off 13 balls. Despite a brilliant 2/28 from Mujeeb Ur Rahman, the Capitals posted a solid 212/5 in 20 overs.
In reply, Paarl Royals faced a disastrous start, losing Lhuan-dre Pretorius on the very first ball. However, England’s Joe Root played an outstanding knock of 92* off 60 balls, forging a crucial 125-run partnership with Rubin Hermann for the second wicket.
Skipper David Miller then sealed the victory with a stunning 48* off 24 balls, as the Royals completed the chase with two balls and eight wickets to spare, stunning the home side.
