[WATCH]- Akash Deep Cleans Up Joe Root With A Peach As India Tighten Grip On Day 4

Indian fast bowler Akash Deep claimed the crucial scalp of Joe Root on Day 4 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston on Saturday, July 5. The right-armer bowled a delivery from wide of the crease that moved away off the pitch, sneaking past Root’s outside edge and crashing into the off stump in the 11th over.

The breakthrough came at a perfect time for India, boosting their chances of pushing for a series-levelling win. For England, the dismissal was a major setback, especially after they had spent a long and tiring day in the field. You can watch the video here:

The wicket added to what has been an impressive outing for the pacer, who came into the side as a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah in this Test. Earlier in the innings, he had already made an impact by dismissing Ben Duckett for 25, dismantling his middle stump with a delivery from around the wicket in the fifth over.

India Dominate As Bowlers Back Up Strong Batting Display On Day 4

After India’s batters amassed a massive total to set England a daunting target of 608 runs, the bowlers made their presence felt in the final session of Day 4. Mohammed Siraj drew first blood by removing Zak Crawley for a duck, caught by substitute fielder Sai Sudharsan.

Akash Deep soon joined the action, sending back Ben Duckett for 25 and then dismissing Joe Root for 6, reducing England to 50/3. The right-arm pacer picked up right where he had left off in the first innings, where he returned with figures of 4/88 in 20 overs, including the back-to-back wickets of Duckett and Ollie Pope.

He later broke a crucial partnership by removing a well-set Harry Brook for 158 and also dismissed Chris Woakes for 5 with the second new ball. By stumps on Day 4, England were 72/3, with Ollie Pope and Harry Brook at the crease.
