During a recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings, an amusing incident involving Peshawar Zalmi’s captain, Babar Azam, took place. As Babar was preparing the field for the second innings, he found himself alongside Rovman Powell, engaged in conversation with the commentators.

While the spider cam trailed him, Babar became startled by its movements, fearing it might collide with him. This comical moment quickly gained traction on social media platforms. Despite this light-hearted moment, Peshawar Zalmi managed to secure a spot in the PSL playoffs by defeating Karachi Kings by a narrow margin of two runs. Babar Azam played a crucial role in his team’s performance, contributing 51 runs off 46 balls to help set a target of 147/6. Karachi Kings’ efforts fell short as they could only muster 145/5 in response.

Babar Azam has faced significant scrutiny and pressure since the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he relinquished his captaincy due to struggles with form in international cricket. Recently, a video surfaced on social media showing fans mocking Babar, labelling him as ‘Zim Babar’. In response, Babar appeared visibly irked, even gesturing towards the fans and threatening to throw a water bottle.

Adding to the challenges, former Pakistan cricket director Muhammad Hafeez alleged that Babar Azam, along with former coaches Mickey Arthur and Grant Bradburn, had neglected team fitness in the lead-up to the ODI World Cup in India. Pakistan’s performance under Babar’s leadership in the tournament was disappointing, failing to advance to the semifinals after losing five out of nine league games and finishing fifth overall.

In summary, amidst moments of humour and victory on the cricket field, Babar Azam continues to grapple with personal and team challenges, navigating scrutiny from fans and former associates alike.
