[WATCH]- CSK Debutant Catches Up With Rohit Sharma After Thrilling MI vs CSK IPL 2025 Match

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) youngster Ayush Mhatre had a special interaction with Mumbai Indians (MI) icon Rohit Sharma following their clash at the Wankhede Stadium on April 20. Mhatre, a long-time admirer of Rohit, previously shared the dressing room with the former MI skipper during the 2025 Ranji Trophy.

The 17-year-old made his IPL debut in the high-profile MI vs CSK fixture and made an immediate impact, scoring a quickfire 32 off just 15 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes. Despite his promising knock, CSK fell short, as Rohit’s unbeaten 76 off 45 balls powered MI to a dominant nine-wicket win, chasing 177 in just 16 overs.

In a video posted by Mumbai Indians on X, Suryakumar Yadav is seen informing Rohit about Mhatre’s wish to meet him. Rohit responded with a “Well played” and recalled playing alongside the youngster during the Ranji Trophy. Mhatre then took the opportunity to ask his idol for tips on playing the pull shot.

Ayush Mhatre joined the Chennai Super Kings squad as a replacement for captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was sidelined from the tournament after five matches due to an elbow injury. The franchise signed the promising Mumbai batter for ₹30 lakh.

“Easy to doubt yourself and try different things” – Rohit Sharma after match-winning knock vs CSK

Rohit Sharma shared his happiness after finding form with the bat in the clash against CSK. The 37-year-old had been struggling, averaging just 13.30 across his first six matches in IPL 2025. However, he was in excellent form from the start, scoring his first half-century of the season and earning the Player of the Match award.

Reflecting on his performance during the post-match presentation, Rohit said (via ESPN Cricinfo):

“After being here for a long time, it’s easy to start doubting yourself and start doing different things. It was important for me to practice well, hit the ball well. When you are clear in your mind, things like this can happen. It has been a while but if you doubt yourself, you put pressure on yourself. It is important to balance how you want to play.”

He further added:

“Today I wanted to hit the ball but was also important to hold the shape and extend the arms. And then if the ball is in the arc, I wanted to try what I always do. It has not been happening consistently but I am not going to doubt myself.”
