David Warner has slammed his Australian teammate Glenn Maxwell, who was commentating on the Big Bash League match between Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades.
Maxwell has been doing commentary for BBL since being ruled out of the competition due to a broken leg suffered in November of last year. The all-rounder is on the mend and could be back on the field during the IPL.
Warner, on the other hand, joined the BBL after the Test series against South Africa and is now playing for the Thunder. The opener had a microphone on him and was talking to the commentators during today’s match between the Sydney franchise and the Renegades when he decided to sledge him.
Warner wondered if Maxwell would request a break from Australia coach Andrew McDonald after his stint as a BBL commentator. He’d slyly congratulate the all-rounder, saying he was doing well. Maxwell joked that it was nice to see Warner give back to the game, which had the rest of the commentary box in splits.
David Warner and Glenn Maxwell engage in a fun banter
“Is Maxi going to ring up Andrew McDonald and ask for a break after this commentary stint? He has been there a while and he is crosscoding as well. It’s one of these things we laugh about but Maxi, you’re doing a great job mate,” said Warner.
“It’s good to see Davey giving back. Doing this for the love of the game isn’t he?” said Maxwell.

This isn’t the first time Warner has poked fun at Maxwell after the all-rounder was sold for a high price in the IPL 2021 auction. According to Fox Sports, the opener was surprised to see Maxwell get released from his franchise and then receive significantly more money.
“It’s surprising, you get let go from your franchise and you get a lot more after being released,” said David Warner.
