Former England cricketer and Delhi Capitals (DC) mentor, Kevin Pietersen, has arrived in India and shared a photo in his training kit from the team hotel ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), set to begin on March 22.

During his playing career, the 44-year-old represented Delhi in two IPL seasons (2012 and 2014), amassing 599 runs in 19 innings at an impressive average of 39.93, including two half-centuries and a century. Pietersen was appointed as DC’s mentor for the 2025 season on February 27.

Reflecting on his new role, he reminisced about his time playing for the franchise and expressed excitement about returning in a different capacity. He stated:

“I’ve got incredible memories of representing the Delhi franchise in the IPL, and I’ve been able to maintain that passion for the team even as a broadcaster over the years. I shared the field with Venu (Venugopal Rao) during the 2012 season, and it’s great to be reconnecting with him as we begin a new chapter at this amazing franchise,” [as per the official website].

On Tuesday, March 18, just days before the start of the 2025 season, Kevin Pietersen posted a picture on Instagram in the DC training kit, captioning it:

Delhi Capitals name Axar Patel as captain, with Faf du Plessis as vice-captain

Ahead of the 2025 mega auction, Rishabh Pant opted to part ways with Delhi Capitals (DC), prompting the franchise to appoint a new captain. The uncertainty was resolved on March 13 when DC named their highest-paid retention, Axar Patel (₹16.50 crore), as the team’s new skipper.

Additionally, former South African captain and seasoned batter Faf du Plessis, who was bought for ₹2 crore at the auction, was appointed as vice-captain. Other key players set to feature for DC this season include KL Rahul, Mitchell Starc, and Kuldeep Yadav.
