Team India all-rounder Deepak Chahar did not have the best outing in the third T20I against South Africa on Tuesday, October 5 at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. He was taken for runs by the Proteas batters, who made the most of the conditions on offer. However, his attempt to run out Tristan Stubbs at the non-striker’s end became a huge talking point in the game.

The incident took place in the 16 over of the first innings, when Deepak Chahar came into bowl. While bowling the fifth delivery of the over, the bowler noticed that Tristan Stubbs was backing up too much at the non-striker’s end. He attempted to run-out Stubbs, however, stopped, and let the batter off with a warning.

According to new rules, running out a batter for backing up too much at the non-striker’s end is placed under Law 38. Earlier, this mode of dismissal was included under the unfair play section, however, not it has been removed. Stubbs was on 17 runs off 14 deliveries, when Deepak Chahar gave him a warning. The Proteas batter was finally dismissed by Deepak Chahar for 23 runs in 20th over.

Notably, the Indian all-rounder was involved in a similar incident during India’s ODI series against Zimbabwe in August. He dislodged the bails when Innocent Kaia was backing up too much, but later let him off with a warning.

Rilee Rossouw’s century powers South Africa to win in the third T20I

Rilee Rossouw smashed 100 runs off just 48 deliveries at a strike rate of 208.33. His knock included seven boundaries and eight sixes. In response, India got all-our for 178 runs in 18.3 overs, with Dwaine Pretorius picking up three wickets. Rossouw won the Player of the Match, as South Africa won by 49 runs. Despite the loss in the third T20I, India won the three-match series 2-1.
