Team India players were all pumped up as they sealed the three-match ODI series on Sunday, beating hosts West Indies by two wickets at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. Chasing 312, the tourists rode on to some crucial contributions from the middle order batters to chase down the total with two balls to spare.

Chasing a mammoth total, India were reduced to 79/3 in the 18th over with Shikhar Dhawan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shubman Gill all back to the pavilion. But a 99-run partnership between Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson brought the visitors back in the contest before Axar Patel took the Men in Blue home.

The all-rounder (64* off 35) launched a full toss from Kyle Mayers way over the ropes to take the team home. After an emphatic win, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video of Team India players reacting immediately after Axar hit the winning six. There were also some glimpses from the dressing room.

They captioned the video as, “Reactions from the dugout and change room as @akshar2026 sealed the ODI series in style 😎👏 #TeamIndia #WIvIND.”

In the video, Mohammed Siraj also shared insights about the on-field pressure while he was batting with Sunday’s hero Axar Patel. The right-arm pacer said:

“The emotions were running high. Axar was really pumped up. It was extraordinary and a different kind of a feeling. I felt that even I could hit a six. But the sensible thing to do was to take a single.”

“Boys didn’t lose the self belief” – India captain Shikhar Dhawan

Stand-in captain Shikhar Dhawan lauded the performance of the cricketers, saying that the players didn’t lose self belief despite being put under the pump several times in the game. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Dhawan said:

“It was a great team performance. Boys didn’t lose the self belief, that is amazing. Iyer, Sanju, Axar everyone was amazing, Even Avesh came out in his debut game and scored those 11 important runs. Thanks to IPL, they perform on a huge stage.”

The third and final game of the series is scheduled to take place on July 27 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad.
