India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir named his double hundred against Australia in 2008 as his most cherished memory at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. The former opener recalled the innings during an interview at the 2025 Delhi Premier League (DPL) final on Sunday, August 31.

After registering his maiden Test century in 2004, Gambhir endured a dry spell without a triple-digit score until the 2008 Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home. He broke the drought with a second-innings hundred in the second Test at Mohali before carrying the form into the third Test in Delhi, where he produced a magnificent 206 at his home ground.

“Obviously, my highest Test score is against Australia, I got 200 on this ground. So, scoring a double hundred at home in front of your family members, it can’t get better than that,” said Gambhir (1:00).

Gambhir’s double ton powered India to a huge first-innings score of 613/7 declared. But with the Delhi pitch offering little for the bowlers, the match drifted to a tame draw as Australia replied with 577. Despite the stalemate, India held a 1-0 lead after the third Test and eventually wrapped up the series 2-0 with a win in the Nagpur finale.

“I Haven’t Watched Much Cricket” – Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir confessed that he didn’t watch much of the recently concluded second season of DPL 2025. In the final, West Delhi Lions defeated Central Delhi Kings by six wickets to claim the trophy. At the same time, Gambhir played a key role in guiding India to a 2-2 draw in the five-Test series against England.

“I’ve not watched a lot of cricket. Infact, I’ve been at home and haven’t watched a lot of cricket. But it’s a great platform for a lot of these boys (DPL) who can showcase their talent,” said Gambhir (via the aforementioned source).
