Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya met star New Zealand pacer Trent Boult at the gym during the team’s camp ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), which kicks off on March 22. The 35-year-old Kiwi pacer previously played for MI in 2020 and 2021, taking 38 wickets in 29 matches before Rajasthan Royals (RR) acquired him for ₹8 crore in the 2022 mega auction.

Now, after three years, Boult is set to return to MI after the franchise secured him for ₹12.50 crore in the 2025 mega auction. The left-arm pacer boasts an impressive IPL record with 121 wickets in 104 matches.

With the IPL 2025 approaching, players have begun reporting to their respective team camps. Mumbai Indians (MI) took to their X account to share a moment of skipper Hardik Pandya meeting star pacer Trent Boult at the gym.

Hardik Pandya last played in the 2025 Champions Trophy final against New Zealand on March 9 in Dubai. India secured a four-wicket win over the Black Caps, claiming their third Champions Trophy title (2002, 2013, and 2025) and becoming the most successful team in the tournament’s history.

Hardik Pandya to Sit Out MI’s IPL 2025 Opener

Mumbai Indians will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 23 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. However, captain Hardik Pandya will miss the opening match. His absence is due to a suspension following MI’s failure to complete their overs on time three times during IPL 2024.

Since the third over-rate violation occurred in MI’s final match of the season, Pandya’s ban carries over to IPL 2025. In his absence, former captain Rohit Sharma, who has led MI to five IPL titles, or Suryakumar Yadav could step in as skipper for the first game.
