Bangladesh cricketer Shoriful Islam took an outstanding sliding catch during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 match against Sri Lanka to dismiss Kusal Mendis on Monday, November 6 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Sri Lankan batter had to walk back to the pavilion disappointed in the innings.
The incident took place during the twelfth over when Shakib Al Hasan came on to bowl. The Bangladesh skipper bowled a full-length delivery to Kusal Mendis, which came into the left-hander. The batter chipped in towards long-on fielder, but the ball came off the toe-end of the bat. Shoriful Islam moved to his left, slid and took a brilliant low, catch at the long-on position.

Kusal Mendis had to walk back to the hut for 19 runs off 30 deliveries at a strike rate of 63.33. He slammed a boundary and a six but did not look in complete control during his stay at the crease. Shoriful Islam also took two wickets in the innings. He finished the innings with two for 52 in 9.3 overs at an economy rate of 5.5.
Sri Lanka all out for 279 runs against Bangladesh
Batting first, Sri Lanka got all out for 279 runs in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh on Wednesday, November 6 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Charith Asalanka slammed a century in the innings. He scored 108 runs off 105 deliveries, with six boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate of 102.86. His partnership with Dhanajaya de Silva got the team past 200 runs.
Interestingly during the innings, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed for a time-out dismissal for Angelo Matthews. The Sri Lanka all-rounder had to turn back to the pavilion frustrated. Meanwhile, Tanzim Hasan Sakib took three wickets in the innings, conceding 80 runs in 10 overs. Shakib Al Hasan also picked a couple of wickets.
