[WATCH]- Indian Pacer Closely Examines England batter’s Bat On Day 2 Of 1st Test

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was seen examining an England batter’s bat on Day 2 of the first Test at Headingley in Leeds. The pacer from Hyderabad casually picked up the bat during a drinks break, appeared to try a few shadow strokes, and then placed it back near the stumps just as he had found it.

The moment seemed light-hearted, but it came during a time when bat inspections have become more common—especially after the 2025 IPL season, where umpires regularly checked bats to make sure they followed size and dimension rules. Several players had their bats rejected during that tournament for not meeting the official standards.

In October 2024, the Telangana State Police honored Mohammed Siraj by appointing him as an honorary Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in recognition of his accomplishments in cricket. The news quickly became a source of viral cricket memes. The lighthearted nickname has also made its way to the field, with fans frequently chanting “DSP” during IPL matches whenever Siraj is in action.

Siraj Remains Wicketless On Day 2 As India Stays In The Contest

Though the 31-year-old went wicketless, the Test remains evenly balanced heading into the remaining three days. Jasprit Bumrah was India’s standout bowler, claiming three wickets. He first removed Zak Crawley for 4, then broke a strong 122-run stand between Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope by dismissing Duckett for 62 after tea.

Bumrah struck again to dismiss Joe Root for 28, marking the 10th time he has dismissed the former England captain in Tests. He nearly had Harry Brook out for a duck in the day’s final over, but the delivery turned out to be a no-ball. Meanwhile, Ollie Pope brought up his century and will start Day 3 unbeaten on 100 off 131 balls.

Earlier in the day, India resumed at 359/3 but were eventually bowled out for 471, with Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue taking four wickets apiece.
