[WATCH] Jadeja-Sudharsan Duo Executes Superb Relay Catch To Dismiss Jamie Smith

Ravindra Jadeja and Sai Sudharsan combined to pull off a smart relay catch near the boundary to dismiss Jamie Smith on Day 3 of the opening Test against England at Headingley. The breakthrough came in the final over before tea, with Prasidh Krishna delivering the crucial blow using the old ball.

Jamie Smith looked in great touch after the lunch interval, striking boundaries with ease. He began the second session with a four and followed it up with a cleanly struck pull shot for six off Prasidh Krishna. Undeterred, the pacer stuck to the short-ball strategy.

Smith went for another pull on the very next ball but failed to connect. India opted for a review for caught behind, but it was unsuccessful as the ball had clearly missed the bat. However, when Smith connected with yet another bouncer, the timing wasn’t enough to clear the boundary.

Jadeja, stationed at deep square leg, took the catch while moving backwards but smartly realised his momentum would take him over the ropes. In a split second, he lobbed the ball to Sai Sudharsan, who had come in as backup. Sudharsan completed the effort safely, sealing a well-coordinated dismissal for India.

The all-rounder’s athletic effort near the boundary came as a much-needed boost for India, who have been inconsistent in the field throughout the match. While Karun Nair set the tone early on Day 2 with a sharp catch to dismiss Zak Crawley, the momentum was soon dented by dropped chances from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja.

The fielding woes continued into Day 3, with Rishabh Pant putting down a regulation catch off the left-arm spinner in the 72nd over, giving Harry Brook another reprieve. At the time of reporting, India have opted for the second new ball. England stand at 352 for 6 after 82 overs, with Brook unbeaten on 70 off 92 balls and Chris Woakes the new man at the crease.
