[WATCH]: Josh Tongue Dismisses Steve Smith In International Cricket After Their County Championship Encounter

In international cricket, England’s fast bowler Josh Tongue successfully dismissed Steve Smith during the second Ashes 2023 Test at Lord’s.

Smith attempted a forceful drive at a full-pitched delivery but only managed to edge it, resulting in Ben Duckett making the catch at gully.

This dismissal occurred in the first over following the drinks break on day two, as Smith aimed to increase his scoring rate.

Despite having dismissed the Australian batsman previously in county cricket, Tongue once again proved successful in removing him.

At the end of day one, the tourists had reached a total of 339-5 after England captain Ben Stokes chose to field first.

David Warner contributed 66 runs, while Marnus Labuschagne added 47 with a century partnership alongside Steve Smith.

Travis Head played aggressively, scoring 77 off 75 deliveries and partnering with the vice-captain, who remained unbeaten at 85.

Australia capitalized on England’s erratic bowling and took advantage of challenging batting conditions.

The English bowlers delivered 12 no-balls on day one, and there were also a few missed catches, which the Australian team made sure to capitalize on.

Steve Smith’s century, his 32nd in Test matches, helped propel Australia’s total to 416 runs.

He achieved the milestone of the fastest 32 Test centuries in terms of innings (174), reaching it with a boundary off James Anderson.

While the hosts initially threatened to dismiss Australia below 400, Pat Cummins contributed a quick 35 runs alongside his deputy.

Josh Tongue and Ollie Robinson both claimed three wickets, while Joe Root took two. Australia currently leads the five-Test series after winning a thrilling opening Test at Edgbaston.

In that match, Australia had faltered at 227-8 while chasing a target of 281, but a 55-run partnership between Cummins and Nathan Lyon ensured their victory.

Usman Khawaja was awarded the Player of the Match for his impressive performances, scoring 141 and 65 runs across both innings.
