[WATCH]- Jurel Pulls Off A Sharp Short-Leg Catch As Jadeja Strikes Immediately In IND vs SA 1st Test

Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja dismissed South Africa opener Aiden Markram on Day 2 (Saturday) of the first Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The left-arm spinner made an immediate impact, striking with just his second delivery of the innings. South Africa began their second innings on Day 2, with Markram managing only four runs from 23 balls before falling in the ninth over.

He attempted a sweep to a full-length delivery, but the ball caught the toe end of his bat. Dhruv Jurel reacted instantly at short leg, taking a sharp catch to send Markram back to the pavilion. The video of the dismissal can be seen here:

Both South African openers were dismissed early in their second innings. Ryan Rickelton was the first to fall, trapped LBW by Kuldeep Yadav after scoring 11 runs off 23 balls. Soon after, Ravindra Jadeja sent Aiden Markram packing, putting pressure on the visitors’ middle order to stabilise the innings.

At the time of writing, South Africa were 38/2 after 15 overs, holding a slim lead of eight runs over India.

After choosing to bat first, South Africa were dismissed for just 159 on Day 1. Jasprit Bumrah was the standout performer for India, producing a brilliant five-wicket haul. India’s reply wasn’t easy on the testing surface, with the batters finding it hard to build a substantial total. KL Rahul top-scored for the side with a gritty 39 off 119 deliveries.

At No. 3, Washington Sundar added 29 from 82 balls, while Rishabh Pant (24 balls) and Ravindra Jadeja (45 balls) each contributed 27 valuable runs. India were eventually bowled out for 189. For South Africa, off-spinner Simon Harmer led the attack with four wickets, and left-arm seamer Marco Jansen claimed three.
