West Indies captain Kieron Pollard is one of the best fielders around and on March 10 (Wednesday), he took another spectacular catch to stamp his authority. Meanwhile, the hosts eventually won the first ODI against Sri Lanka at Sri Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua banking on Shai Hope’s brilliant century to go 1-0 up in the three-match series.
Sri Lanka got off to a decent start after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne looked in ominous touch piercing the gaps easily. The visiting side raced to 105 runs in just 20 overs and West Indies were in dire need of breaking the partnership when Kieron Pollard took the onus on himself. The veteran all-rounder took a juggling catch of his own bowling to get his counterpart out.

The incident took place in the 20th over when Kieron Pollard bowled one from the back of his hand taking the pace off. Dimuth Karunaratne was early into his push, checked his shot, and lobbed it uppishly to the right of the bowler. Pollard stretched across in his followthrough and knocks the ball with his right hand towards silly mid-off, moves quickly, and dives sideways to take it with both hands. Only Pollard can pull off such catches.

Meanwhile, the highlight of the game was Danushka Gunathilaka’s obstructing the field out. It garnered a lot of reactions among the fans leaving the spectrum divided into two halves.
Speaking of the game, the Sri Lanka innings lost their way from that point, and from 2-112 the tourists were all out for 232 in 49 overs. West Indies surpassed that total with Shai Hope making 110 and his opening partner Evin Lewis adding 65. They added 143 runs for the first wicket before Darren Bravo and Jason Mohammed took them home.
The second of the three-match ODI series is on March 12 (Friday) in Antigua.
