Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) cricketers Pat Cummins and Shivam Mavi produced a perfect relay catch to dismiss Riyan Parag. The dismissal helped Kolkata to pull things back but Rajasthan Royals rode onto a 18-over finish to post 217 runs on the board in their quota of 20 overs.

Asked to bat first, Rajasthan posted the highest total of IPL 2022 so far. The openers took some time to settle down but once Jos Buttler got used to the pace of the wicket, there was no looking back for him. He took the attack to the opposition while Devdutt Padikkal played the second fiddle.

The Englishmen struck everything that was in his arc before Sanju Samson joined the party. The Rajasthan captain smacked 38 off 19 balls to give the impetus while Jos Buttler continued from the other end. Eventually, he brought out his second century of the season.

By the time he got out in the 17th over, the Royals were already at 183 runs. But Kolkata Knight Riders pulled the brakes in the next couple of overs. In the 18th over of the innings, Pat Cummins and Shivam Mavi joined hands to produce a brilliant effort to dismiss Riyan Parag.

It was a tossed up delivery and Parag lofts powerfully over the bowlers head. Cummins on the long-off fence runs and takes it overhead to his right, but his balance and momentum are taking him towards the cushions. He flicked the ball to Mavi who was coming in from long-on. Mavi jumped a bit and stuck his right hand out to hang on.

While it look like KKR would restrict Rajasthan within 200, Shimron Hetmyer accumulated 18 runs off the final over to propel the team to 217 runs.

Aaron Finch and Shreyas Iyer put KKR on song for the run chase

The Kolkata franchise got off to the worst start, losing Sunil Narine, who was promoted to maximize the field restrictions, on the first ball of the innings. But it didn’t seem to matter as Aaron Finch and Shreyas Iyer unleashed a counter-attack, keeping up with the asking rate.

They added 107 runs for the second wicket to put KKR on course for the run chase. Aaron Finch got out after a well-made 58 off just 28 balls, including nine boundaries and two maximums. Iyer also brought his half-century to keep the required rate within reach. At the time of writing, KKR need 71 runs off 44 deliveries.
