We have seen many bizarre incidents over the years in cricket where players collide. We have seen incidents of umpires colliding with players also. In the ongoing Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, we saw something very rare and one incident that might have been hurtful.

After a very long break international cricket is back and Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were at it in a two-match Test series. On the very first day, Srilanka won the toss and chose to bat first on a wicket that provides help to both batters and bowlers.

The bizarre incident that occurred was in the 24th over of the 1st innings when Kusal Mendis hit Liton Das with his bat. Bangladesh off-spinner Nayeem Hasan was bowling to Sri Lankan batter Kusal Mendis.

The bowler banged in one short ball down the leg and like any good batsman would, he tried to pull but mistimed the shot. He didn’t make a good connection with the ball and swung his bat at the keeper instead in the follow through. Fortunately, he didn’t make a good connection while hitting the keeper and not much damage happened in any manner.

The play continued after a small halt as a mandatory concussion test had to be done on the keeper since the impact was on his head.

Sri Lanka post 397 runs in their first innings

On the back of Angelo Mathews’ 199 – Sri Lanka have managed to post a massive total of 397. They were looking for a total closer to 500 by the end of day 1, but the Bangladesh spinners bounced back well.

Nayeem Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan were impressive as they claimed six wickets and three wickets respectively. There were crucial contributions by Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal and Vishwa Fernando towards the end, and that has allowed the visitors to get closer to the 400-run mark.
